EPHS Band Awards

The recipients of the following six awards will have his or her name inscribed on a brass plaque. The plaque will be placed with all other significant EPHS all-school awards in the display cases located in the school.

WOODY HERMAN AWARD

Awarded by the Band Directors to a senior band member for excellent leadership, musicianship, improvisation ability and dedication to the jazz program. It is considered the runner-up to the Louis Armstrong Award.

LOUIS ARMSTRONG AWARD

The highest achievement for high school jazz band since 1974, the Armstrong Award honors the most outstanding senior jazz performer. This award recognizes outstanding leadership,

musicianship, improvisation ability and dedication to jazz.

EPHS DIRECTORS AWARD

Awarded by the Band Directors to one or more senior band members in both the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble, this award is for unique achievement and service in band through exemplary leadership, attitude, and dedication to the entire band program.

EPHS MUSICIANSHIP AWARD

Awarded by the Band Directors to one or more senior band members for superior musicianship skills and dedication to the craft of perfecting his or her instrumental music performance. These students are musical role models for others and considered most likely to succeed in musical performance beyond high school.

PATRICK GILMORE AWARD

Awarded by the Band Directors to a senior band member for excellent leadership, musicianship, attitude and dedication to the band program and is considered the runner-up to the John Philip Sousa Award. Patrick Gilmore was a legendary 19th -century bandmaster and impresario.

JOHN PHILIP SOUSA AWARD

The John Philip Sousa Band Award is the pinnacle of achievement for high school band students. The award honors the most outstanding senior student member in the high school band program and recognizes exceptional leadership, musicianship, attitude and dedication. This is the highest award in the EPHS band program and has been presented annually at EPHS since 1961.
